The city of Marshall will be considering a new plat that will include the new Dollar General shop on East College Drive.

The new plat would combine two existing lots into one in order to adhere to Marshall zoning requirements.

The Marshall City Council placed the plat on the consent agenda and set a public hearing for December 13 during its regular meeting on Tuesday.

The topic was not discussed, but the council meeting's agenda states that:

The property's lot lines and zoning issues would be fixed by the new plat.

"City administration regards the plat as a formality because there is little reason to not approve a plat to merge parcels and clarify property descriptions," said Jason Anderson, director of Marshall Public Works.

The agenda package said that Dollar General has purchased two parcels for development along East College Drive.

However, the store building is currently perched over the lot line between the two lots. That is prohibited by city zoning laws, which call for property line setbacks.

The situation was complicated by an error in the property descriptions in the lot descriptions.
