Following a brief illness, Christine McVie, the singer-songwriter behind some of Fleetwood Mac's biggest hits, passed away on Wednesday.

While the band was being headed by guitarist and founder Peter Green, she joined Fleetwood Mac after being married to its bassist, John McVie.

She stated to The Guardian in June 2022, "Chicken Shack used to open for [Fleetwood Mac]." It was wonderful and exhilarating as I got to know John and fell in love with him. Fleetwood Mac were amazing and hilarious.

Before Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the group in 1974 and the band immediately rose to super fame, the group had a number of member changes.

Several of their top songs, including "Don't Stop," "Over My Head," "You Make Loving Fun," and "Say You Love Me," were written by McVie or featured her singing.

Due to the breakdown of the McVies' marriage and the romance between Buckingham and Nicks, Fleetwood Mac experienced considerable volatility.

In 1987, Buckingham made the decision to quit the band and go solo, and Nicks did the same in 1990.

McVie also went solo, and earlier this year, "Songbird (A Solo Collection)," a collection of her solo work, was released.
